Expert-led, hands-on HTML5 Training Courses for Developer Teams.

HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) and CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) are the core technologies of most web pages. HTML gives a webpage its structure and determines the location and order of text, images, and other elements. CSS gives a web page its appearance or styling. CSS controls things like color, font-size, width/height, and margins/padding.

More About HTML5

HTML is a semantic markup language for giving structure to web documents. Be it that HTML, CSS, and JavaScript are the core of web pages, here’s an apt metaphor to understand the difference between them. Imagine a house…HTML powers the structure of a website. CSS powers the looks/styling. JavaScript powers how it functions.

HTML5 is the newest version of HTML and its features have been gaining browser support since its launch. HTML4 was released in 1999 and became quickly dated when the internet adoption exploded. Web pages became a hodge podge of HTML, JavaScript, and plugins. People wanted more from the browser but HTML4 was not up for it. We were stuck with a lot of plugins, hacks, and odd ways of doing things for a long time. HTML fixed that by offering us the following:

    • Semantic markup – Tags and elements that are more self-explanatory
    • Multimedia without plugins – video and audio without 3rd party nonsense like Flash
    • Rich Internet clients: Canvas element, JavaScript interfaces – Run entire interactive games within the browser
    • Advanced CSS: Selectors, animations, shadows, etc.
    • Form Validation:

HTML5 essentially brought a ton of powerful native functionality to achieve things with HTML that were hacks and workarounds before.
